Privacy Policy

Meritas Talent Pty Ltd collects personal information to run its recruitment and labour hire services, and handles it under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy was last updated on 20 October 2026.

1. Who we are

Meritas Talent Pty Ltd (ABN 56 619 850 994) (Meritas Talent, we, us), formerly SSM Technology Pty Ltd, is a privately owned Australian recruitment and labour hire company at Level 4, 15 Moore Street, Canberra. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information, including when you use meritastalent.com (the Website).

2. The personal information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you deal with us.
  • Candidates and contractors: name, contact details, location, CV and work history, qualifications, referee details, salary and availability, right to work in Australia, security clearance level, and notes from our conversations with you. For contractors on our payroll we also collect tax file number, bank account, superannuation and emergency contact details.
  • Clients and their staff: name, job title, employer, contact details, and details of the roles you ask us to fill.
  • Referees: your name, contact details and what you tell us about a candidate.
  • Website visitors: details you enter in our forms, and technical information such as IP address, browser, device and pages visited (see our Cookie Notice).
We collect sensitive information, such as health information, criminal history or professional memberships, only when you consent and it is relevant, for example for a pre-employment check a client requires.

3. How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you, for example when you meet us for a coffee or a Teams call, send a CV, fill in a form on the Website, call or email us, or connect with us on LinkedIn. We may also collect it from referees, from our clients, from publicly available sources such as LinkedIn, job boards and your professional profiles, and from screening providers when you have agreed to a check.

4. Why we collect, use and share it

We use personal information to:
  • assess candidates, match them with roles and put them forward to clients;
  • supply contractors and run payroll, superannuation and other employment obligations;
  • provide recruitment services to clients and manage our client relationships;
  • check identity, right to work, qualifications, references and clearances where required;
  • tell you about suitable roles, services and news (you can opt out at any time);
  • run, secure and improve the Website and our business; and
  • meet our legal obligations.
If you do not give us the information we ask for, we may not be able to consider you for a role or provide you with our services.

5. Who we may share it with

  • Clients, and prospective clients, when we put a candidate forward. We share a candidate’s information with a client only for a role they have discussed with us.
  • Referees and screening providers, with your agreement.
  • Service providers who help us run our business, such as payroll, superannuation, IT, cloud storage, website hosting, email, marketing and analytics providers.
  • Professional advisers, insurers, and government agencies or regulators where the law requires or allows it.
  • A buyer or successor, if our business is sold, with the same protections for your information.
We do not sell personal information.

6. Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers, such as cloud storage and email platforms, may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States or Europe. Before we disclose personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles it consistently with the APPs.

7. Direct marketing

We may send you information about roles, services and news by email, SMS or phone, as the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (Cth) allow. You can unsubscribe using the link in any message or by emailing us, and we will stop.

8. Cookies and analytics

The Website uses cookies and similar technologies. Our Cookie Notice explains what they are and how to control them.

9. Security and how long we keep information

We store information electronically in secured systems and limit access to people who need it. We keep candidate and client records for as long as they are useful for our services or the law requires, then securely destroy or de-identify them. If we suffer a data breach likely to cause serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

10. Access and correction

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. We will respond within a reasonable time, normally 30 days, and may ask you to verify your identity. If we cannot give you access or make a correction, we will explain why in writing.

11. Complaints

If you think we have breached the APPs, write to us at the details below and we will investigate and reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always on the Website, with the date it was last updated.

Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use meritastalent.com (the Website), which is run by Meritas Talent Pty Ltd (ABN 56 619 850 994) (Meritas Talent, we, us). By using the Website you agree to them. They were last updated on 19 October 2026.

1. About the Website

The Website gives information about our recruitment and labour hire services and lets you contact us, register your interest and view or apply for roles. Content on the Website is general information only. It is not career, legal, financial or employment advice.

2. Using the Website

You agree to:
  • use the Website only for lawful purposes and in line with these terms;
  • give accurate, current and complete information in any form, application or message;
  • not submit information about another person unless you have their permission; and
  • not interfere with the Website or try to gain unauthorised access to it, for example by introducing malware, scraping it in bulk or overloading it.

3. Job listings and applications

  • A job listing is an invitation to apply. It is not an offer of employment or engagement, and we do not guarantee that a role is still open, that you will be interviewed or shortlisted, or that you will be placed.
  • Submitting your details or CV does not create an employment relationship or agency arrangement with us. Any engagement is subject to a separate written agreement, a right-to-work check and any checks or clearances a client requires.
  • We handle personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy.
  • Candidates are never charged a fee for our recruitment services.

4. Employers and clients

A request to hire made through the Website is an enquiry only. Our services to employers are provided under a separate written agreement, which sets fees, payment terms and replacement terms. If these terms and that agreement conflict, the agreement prevails.

5. Intellectual property

The Website and its content, including text, logos, graphics, the Meritas Talent name and Merit Profile format, are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may view the Website and print or download extracts for your own personal, non-commercial use. You must not copy, reproduce, modify or commercially use the content without our written permission.

6. Third-party links

The Website may link to other websites, such as LinkedIn. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

7. Availability and accuracy

We aim to keep the Website accurate and available, but we do not promise that it will be error-free, secure or always accessible. We may change, suspend or remove any part of the Website or its content at any time without notice.

8. Australian Consumer Law and our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), including the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law that cannot be excluded. Subject to that, and to the extent the law permits:
  • the Website and its content are provided “as is”, and we give no warranties about them other than those that cannot be excluded; and
  • we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or loss of profit, opportunity or data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Website.
Where the law lets us limit our liability for a breach of a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.

9. Privacy and cookies

Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice form part of these terms.

10. Suspension

We may suspend or block your access to the Website if you breach these terms or misuse the Website.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The updated version applies from the date it is published on the Website. Using the Website after that date means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory. You and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Australian Capital Territory and the Commonwealth courts exercising jurisdiction there.
